In a nutshell: Northshore and Shoreline Fire are combining into one efficient Regional Fire Authority. It will save 100% of homeowners on their taxes while delivering exceptional service for the community. Each community will elect local representatives to serve on the larger regional board. This plan will be put to voters for approval in the February 11th, 2025 Special Election.
RFAs are a win-win for everyone:
Ballots will be mailed approximately January 24th, and voting will continue through Election Day, February 11th.
Shoreline Fire currently serves the City of Shoreline, and Northshore Fire serves Kenmore and Lake Forest Park. Northshore and Shoreline Fire will team up under one united Regional Fire Authority, serving all three cities.
If so desired, by mutual agreement, other cities can join the RFA in the future with a simple majority approval (50%).
The RFA will be governed by a board of ten (10) Commissioners. Initially, current Fire Commissioners from Northshore and Shoreline respectively will serve as RFA Commissioners. In the future, each district will continue electing five (5) Fire Commissioners, ensuring their local communities get a seat at the table.
While this RFA is the first in North King County, RFAs have become a popular choice for neighboring communities. There are three RFAs in South King County, and three RFAs in Snohomish County.
